SILENCE ON SUNDAY -- FAMILY FLASHBACK

  1. I love these nostalgic photos...what is it that gives them that essence of retro-cool?

I firmly believe that we don't know where we are going if we don't know where we've been.

  2. Maybe we love these kinds of photos because they are our history?

I actually have relatives buried in a little cemetary in the Winnipeg Beach/Sandy Hook area. Isn't that cool?

I remember my great Auntie Nia (Icelandic) - tiny little lady who always smiled, shook like a leaf, and insisted on holding her own tea cup on a saucer. It rattled madly but she never spilled a drop. And her sister, Auntie Bjorg, was very tall and more serious. Such contrasts from the same family - but I guess most families have that to some extent.

  3. What great photos, to me the shot of (I think your Dad), leaning against the car, is an even more handsome Sean Penn character. Beautiful Mum, and gorgeous young photos of the kids. Love family photos, we don't actually have many from our (past) family, it's a nice feeling to see family pics for some reason.

  4. Pam, yes that is my dad. Handsome guy, isn't he?

That pic, I believe, is from the mid 50's. He passed away in 1989 at the age of 56 (cancer). I have lots of pictures of him over the years, thankfully, so it is very easy to revive the memories.

My mum passed away 5 1/2 years ago. She was 71. Emphysema. A life of smoking did her in.

All the photos we have in the family, between all my siblings and myself, are shared and added to and talked about. We have always had a close family and the photos just seem to make us that much closer. I feel privileged to be a member of such a loving clan.
